What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a traditional therapy based on the idea that points on the hands and feet relate to different areas of the body. The hands and feet are used because they are so rich in nerve endings.

Practitioners use specific massage techniques to work on these points, both to notice areas of tension and to encourage a relaxation response in the body.

Reflexology is widely used for relaxation and wellbeing. Many people find it helps them shift out of “fight or flight” and into a calmer “rest and digest” state.

Reflexology techniques

Our therapists use a range of massage techniques to work on specific points on the hands and feet.

Thumb walking

One of the fundamental reflexology techniques. The therapist uses their thumb to apply gentle pressure, moving in a walking motion across the hands or feet to release tension.

Finger rotation

The fingers rotate and knead specific reflex points to release tension in that area and encourage relaxation.

Hand reflexology

Foot reflexology is better known, but hand reflexology works on the same principles. It is useful if you have a foot injury or cannot have your feet treated.

Why people choose reflexology

Relaxation

The most common reason people book. Many find reflexology deeply relaxing, with less muscle tension and a sense of calm afterwards.

Stress

A quiet hour that helps you switch off from a busy, stressful week.

Sleep and wellbeing

Many patients tell us they sleep better after a session and feel more like themselves.

Alongside fertility care

We use reflexology as part of a whole fertility picture, together with acupuncture and nutrition where that suits you.
