Treatment room at Juniper Clinic, Stockton Heath

Your local acupuncture clinic, in the heart of the village

Juniper Clinic is at 30a London Road, right in the middle of Stockton Heath. Most of our patients live a few minutes away, in Stockton Heath itself, Grappenhall, Appleton, Thelwall, Walton and Lymm. Some walk over from home, some come in on the way to or from work, and plenty keep coming back because it becomes the one hour in the week that is theirs.

We are best known for women’s health and fertility, but a good half of the people on our couches are here for something else entirely. A bad back. Headaches that keep coming back. Sleep that has gone wrong. Or simply feeling run down and wanting an hour where somebody looks at the whole picture rather than 1 symptom.

What people come to see us about

2 broad reasons, and the same careful approach for both. Tap through to read more about each.

Fertility and women’s health

We will always be clear with you about what acupuncture can and cannot do, and we work alongside your GP, consultant or clinic, never instead of them.

What happens in your first session

Your first appointment is longer than the rest, because most of the useful work happens before any needles go in.

  1. 01Before you arriveA consultation form arrives as soon as you book. Your practitioner reads it before you walk in, so you are not starting from scratch.

  2. 02A proper conversationYour history, your sleep, your digestion, your cycle if you have one, and what has already been tried. We look at it from a Western and a Chinese medicine point of view.

  3. 03Your treatmentVery fine, single use needles, chosen for you rather than from a template. Most people find it deeply relaxing, and a few fall asleep.

  4. 04A plan you understandYou leave knowing what we are looking at, why, and what happens next. Then you see the same practitioner each time.

Acupuncture in Stockton Heath: your questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are much finer than the ones used for injections or blood tests. Most people feel a small tap or a dull, heavy sensation, and then nothing much at all. Many people find the session deeply relaxing.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are coming in for and how long it has been going on. We will talk you through a realistic plan at your first appointment rather than selling you a block you may not need.

What is the difference between fertility and general acupuncture?

Fertility acupuncture is for anyone trying to conceive, going through IVF, pregnant or with a women’s health concern. The first appointment is 75 minutes so we can go through your cycle and history properly. It is £75, then £59 for follow ups. General acupuncture is £65 for your first appointment and £57 for follow ups.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can book directly. If you are under the care of your GP, a consultant or a fertility clinic, let us know and we will work around them.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable that rolls up easily at the arms and legs. Many of the points we use are below the elbows and knees. Try to eat something light beforehand rather than coming in on an empty stomach.

Can I have acupuncture when I am pregnant?

Yes. Treatment in pregnancy is different, and our practitioners are trained for it. Tell us how many weeks you are when you book. You can read more on our early pregnancy page.
